I love going to the gym as it is a great way to keep your body healthy. A popular style of training is body building, which is where you try and get as big as possible. The opposite of this is power lifting, where the goal is to get as strong as possible.
Crossfit does a bit of everything and was very popular a few years ago. It seems good, but it is easy to get injured doing this. The same is true for Kettlebells. They can be a very effective way to train, but you need to do things properly as you can easily hurt your back if you move them wrong.
Calisthenics is body weight training. This is often seen as too easy, and people prefer to lift weights, but if you do things correctly you can get a very effective workout.
If you want to make your heart healthy then you need to do cardio, which is any type of exercise that makes you have a high heart rate. I hate cardio, it always makes me get so out breath …but it is important to do. The main types of cardio are cycling or Running. I usually go jogging, which is slow enough that I can handle it, but fast enough that it is good for my heart.
I think a lot of people forget about flexibility training, such as yoga, but we should all be doing this. The older I get, the more I realise it is important to be able to move freely and training flexibility plays a big part in this.
You can also training for a specific sport, but even when you do this you are still going to take a lot of the principles I have spoken about above to help you get better at that sport, such as doing cardio, so you can play the sport for longer without getting tired.
