Example Sentences -例文
Christmas is a traditional Christian holiday to celebrate birth of Jesus and happened every year on the 25th December.
When we think of Christmas, there is usually some things related to the church, but today it is much more. Children get very excited about getting presents and they are told they are delivered by Santa, who visited them in the middle of the night to leave them gifts. This has probably come from the story of saint Nicolas who was famous for giving gifts to children. The many different folklores from across Europe has turned this into the modern day Santa Claus. He wears red clothes and has a big white beard.
Presents where also given to Jesus when he was born, so this may also be part of the reason why we get presents today.
People also decorate their homes with lights and a Christmas tree, which can look very beautiful.
This is a time when all the family will get together, so they always celebrate this with a large meal where a turkey is cooked. This use to be goose, but king Henry the 8th decided on year he wanted turkey and this has been the tradition ever since. In Japan you eat KFC, which is similar, and equally as delicious.
