Example Sentences -例文

When we look at a car from the outside, it will have doors and windows, The main window at the front is called the windscreen. This is often called a “window screen” but this is wrong. the name comes from the first cars, that had no roof. They added a sheet of glass at the front, to stop the wind from hitting you in the face.

This window will also have wipers, (windscreen wipers) which move back and forth and push water off the glass. This means you can still see out, even if it is raining.

Cars also have different lights at the front and back. This is so people can see you, and also so you can see in the dark.

Cars are able to move as they have wheels and they should have four wheels. The black part of the wheel is called a tire.

The front section of the car is called the bonnet which is where the engine is. In fancy sports cars, the engine is sometimes in the back.

In a normal car this back area is an empty space where you can store things, like your shopping. In the UK we called this the boot, but the Americans call it the trunk.

Cara also run on petrol, and to add this to the fuel tank, you have to open the fuel cap, which is usually found on the side of the car.

When you look inside the car, you will see seats. There are usually two seats in the front called “the front seats” and these can be also called the passenger seat and the driver’s seats.

It depends what country you are in, but these seats can be on different sides. I am pretty sure the Japanese are like the British …we both drive on the left hand side, which means are driver’s seat is on the right hand side of the car.

Most cars have seats behind the drivers and passengers seats, and we just call these the back seats.

Every seat will have a seat belt, which you must wear to keep you safe.

If you are the driver, you will need to see what is around you, and you can do this by looking through the windows, but there are also mirrors to help you see what is behind. You will have two side mirrors, called wing mirrors, and then one mirror in the middle of the windscreen, called the rear view mirror. It is important that you use these when driving.

When you are driving you will need to hold on to the steering wheel, which is how you make the car change direction. You will also need to use your indictors to let people know that you are changing direction. These are the orange flashing lights on the side of the car.

Near your steering wheel you will find a red button, which will make both your left and right indicators flash at once. When these are on, they are called your hazard lights and it lets other people know there is a problem with your car.

Behind your steering wheel you will find a display panel with information. There is going to be the fuel gauge which will show you how much petrol you have. There is also the speedometer when will tell you how fast you are going and then there will also be other lights that tell you about any problems, these are your warning lights.

Your car will also have an ignition, which is the thing that starts the engine and in older cars this works by putting in a key and turning the engine on.

Your car is also going to have a handle in the middle, which is the parking break, or hand break. It has these names as you have to use your hand to use it, and you also only use it when you are parked.

Below the steering wheel, where you feet go, you will find some pedals, which is how you control the car.

There is going to be either 2 or 3 pedals. There will also be a brake to stop and an accelerator to go. However, if you are driving a manual car, then there will also be a 3rd pedal, known as the clutch.

If you are driving this type of car, there will also be a gear stick and you will need to change this as you drive

Automatic cars change gears by themselves, so there will be no gear stick or clutch.

In between the driver’s seat and the passenger’s seat there will usually be some controls. This is usually the radio for your music the air conditioning / heater to control the temperature.

Some cars also have a sat nav, which is the map and directions so you do not get lost.

Modern cars also have air bags, which will pop out if you crash and try to keep you safe.

The chairs may also have an arm rest, where you can comfortably put your arm. Some of these also have cup holders, which is a place to put your drinks.

In front of the passenger’s seat there will be a compartment to keep things, and this is called the glove box.
