Finding A French Tutor Online
The quickest and most efficient way to find a French tutor is to look online. There are hundreds of websites that will put you in contact with tutors for any language, including French, and I will go through some of them below.
Using an online tutor is really easy, you can learn from the comfort of your own home at any time of the day. You just need to book a time that suits you and away you go.
Payment and booking is also very simple, it’s really like buying anything else online. It can seem a little worrying, but you don’t need to stress.
All I would say is that if you are going to use a site I have not listed below just make sure you do your research and check the reviews to see if the site is legit.
Luckily there are more legit sites than scams, so unless you stray very far off the path, you should end up paying for a helpful tutor that can actually improve your French skills.

Good Websites To Find A French Tutor
All the websites I mention are pretty similar. They are a platform that puts the tutors and you, the learner, together.
The tutors make an account and show case their skills and explain why they might be the right person to teach you, then you the student make an account and browse the tutors. Normally they are able to upload a little video where they talk about themselves which allows you to get a feel for what they are like.
When you like one, you can book a lesson with them. You can book as many lessons as you want with whoever you want, whenever you want.
These sites are extremely flexible and they do not tie you into a subscription. You can have one lesson and that’s it, or you can have multiple a day.
Each tutor sets the price and it is clearly stated how much they charge and there will be some sort of calendar to show when they are available.
The lessons are done over webcam, so you will need a computer and a camera, and they are done 1-1. You can decide with your tutor what is best for you and focus on that or allow your tutor to help you come up with a plan, these lessons are very flexible and you can really do tailor them to your needs.
Italki
When you ask anyone about online language tutors, the first thing they will probably say is Italki.
They have over 10000 teachers, teaching 130 languages, so no matter what you are looking for, you will find it here.
They actually have 5 million customers, so it’s safe to say they are very legit.

Langua Talk
Langua Talk is another well respected tutor site that has a wide range of languages including French. It is a very legit site and you will have no issues using it and finding a great tutor.

Preply
Preply is another commonly mentioned tutor site that like the others has a huge range of tutors teaching all sorts of languages, including French. It is a very legit site and you will have no issues using it and finding a great tutor.

Lingoda
Lingoda is a little bit different than above sites. You can still do 1-1 lessons, but they also offer small group classes made up of about 3 people.
Their system is more of a subscription, but you can cancel at time. They ask you to pay for a set number of 60 minute classes a month, and then you can book these classes whenever it suits you.
This website is sort of like a set class style system, your lessons are a little more structure compared to the flexibility you may have with the above sites. However, this is not a bad thing and could actually be beneficial for someone very new to French who is looking for some structure in their learning.

Finding A French Tutor In Person
If for some reason you are not keen on using online tutors, you can try and find one in person. This is maybe not as common now, since it is much easier for the tutors to just work online as they have access to more people. However, it is still possible to find a French tutor near you, but it really depends where you live.
The best way to find one is to look online… weird right? They may teach offline, but most of them know about online marketing.
Just do a quick search and hopefully you will get many results in your area. If you use google you should see the map of your area pinpointing where they are based and have links to their websites.
You can of course go old school and look at local community notice boards, or at ask at the local community centre to see if any tutors are advertising.
You should also ask around locally as someone will probably know about one. French tutors are more likely to be helping kids with their school work, so if you know anyone with kids, or any teachers in general, you should ask if they know about any French tutors.
While these tutors mostly teach kids, they should still be willing to do private lessons for adults too, it’s certainly worth asking to see what they say.
Move To France
An easy, but maybe drastic way to find a French tutor in person is to move to France.
There are actually plenty of “Study in France” type courses where you can go for a few weeks and study. This means you don’t need to randomly leave your life behind and move there full time with the hope you can find a teacher, you can kind of just go there purposefully to study for a while.
I have not used one of these types of courses myself, but I would be very interested to try. They seem to cost a lost, and you need the time to go for a few weeks, but for some people this option will work.
It will really allow you to have a good solid period of total immersion which I am sure does wonders for your French skills and would be a very interesting experience.
Conclusion
As you can see there are a number of ways that you can find a French tutor to help you learn, clearly the easiest way is to do it online.
There are plenty of websites set up to cater for this, so there is no reason to avoid them. Get yourself signed up book a French tutor today, as I’ve already said, it will be one of the best investments you can make for your language skills.
