Red and white are important colours in Japan. This is the colour of the flag; the background is white with the red circle in the middle. Tokyo Tower is also red and white.

Yellow is the colour of bananas and lemons. Green is the colour of grass and the sky is blue. Doraemon is also blue …and white.

Grey is the colour of rain clouds and this colour makes us feel sad.  Pink is a colour that makes us think of girls and sakura. Sakura can be pink or white. 

Most people in Japan have black hair, but some people have brown hair. If you look at a salary mans shoes, they are normally black, but sometimes brown.

If you look inside your wallet, you might see some purple. The ¥5,000 note is purple.

You can talk about differences in colour by saying “dark” or “light”.  If you look at a bottle of Calpis you will see different blues. The colour changes from dark blue to light blue.
